In this ablog I just want to mention one of the hoax e-mail received. The e-mail subject as follows:
ICICI ATM card on danger!
E-mail message as follows:
ICICI ATM / Debit cards can be used at SBI ATMs to withdraw money and most shocking thing is, it does not ask for your PIN**. Even if it asks for pin and if u cancel it, it goes on to the next screen and enables you to withdraw cash. This security vulnerability was shown live on IndiaTV news channel at SBI ATM in Hyderabad. So please take utmost care of your ICICI ATM / Debit cards to avoid any such misuse. Please forward this to as many people as you know…
This is a chain mails, that means who ever receives that mail then forward to the group of friends. It is intend to damage the name of specific bank, in this case the victim is ICICI Bank.
After reading the mail, I have googled it to know the facts, first result which I got is ICICI Bank Online. It says as follows:
Dear Customer,
We understand that there are misleading e-mails being sent to ICICI Bank customers informing them that they can withdraw money from SBI ATMs using their ICICI Bank Debit / ATM Cards without using their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs).
We would like to clarify here, that there is no problem with the ICICI Bank ATM / Debit Card. We have checked the transactions of ICICI Bank cards on ATMs of SBI. The ATMs do ask for the PIN to be entered by the customer.
We reassure you that ICICI Bank declines all ATM transactions coming without a PIN or with an incorrect PIN.
We affirm that all ICICI Bank Debit /ATM cardholders can safely use their cards across all ICICI Bank ATMs as well as at all participating ATMs of the VISA/NFS network.
We request you to forward this note to all those who may have sent you misguiding e-mails in this regard.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
ICICI Bank Ltd.
Please don’t forward such mails without the official proof on it. That will damage a company’s brand quality.
