Don’t lose control of your finances this Christmas
- 1 Comment
Christmas can be an expensive time of year for anyone, so it is important to make sure you don’t lose control of your finances over the festive season.
However, this may be a little harder than it sounds – and if your finances run away from you this Christmas and you end up in debt, what could you do to rein them back in?
Assess your situation
Take a look at your finances and see what has gone wrong. Look at where you have fallen into debt and ask yourself how and why.
Take a look at how much you owe and who you owe it to. Then work out how much money you will be required to repay each month, and how much money you will be required to repay overall.
By doing this, you will be able to get a crystal-clear picture of your own financial situation. This is very important – as you won’t be able to resolve the problem if you don’t know what it is!
Can you sort the problem out yourself?
If the problem with your finances is only small… do you think you will be able to sort this out yourself? For example, if you only have one debt, and you know it won’t take long to repay – you will probably be ok, and able to sort this out yourself.
However, if your problem is more serious, you may want help sorting it out.
Either way, it may be a good idea to…
… Seek professional debt advice
By seeking professional debt advice, you will be able to get an experienced debt adviser to look at your situation for you. They will be able to assess how serious your debts are, and should be able to identify the most suitable way for you to tackle your debts.
Their advice could range from budgeting tips to recommending that you enter a specific debt solution – it all depends on your individual circumstances.
Debt advice is usually offered for free, so you should be able to get help with your finances without having to spend a penny. However, if your situation requires more help than just a few words of advice, you may find that you have to pay a fee for a debt solution company’s services – but on the other hand, it could/should mean you’re on the road to becoming debt free!
